Comfy Q and A with Celebrity Bridal Stylist Samantha Popa
Q. Even the most stylish seasoned shoppers find it hard to “Say Yes” to the correct dress, do you have any wedding dress shopping tips for them?
A. Samantha Popa:
Know Your Wedding date and venue. If you know these two details then it is easier to choose what fabric and style dress will work best for your occasion. For Summer weddings, I pull lighter fabrics and laces, for clients. During Fall and Winter months I like heavier fabrics and long sleeves which are richer and create more depth in pictures.
Q. Although there are many wedding dresses, brides label themselves with categories such as having a pear shape, being busty, petite, or tall, therefore limiting their selections any thoughts?
A. Samantha Popa:
When it comes to trying on garments. I know you should explore different shapes in the beginning. You never know what will look amazing on you unless you try it on, even if it is too big or small.
V necklines are minimizing and if you want a more modest look, off the shoulder, and sleeves are the way to go.
Thank you Kim and Kate for making sleeves at a winter wedding a must have. For pale skin brides I would choose an ivory lace that will make your skin tone shine. For olive tones and darker complexions you can go with a brighter white that will truly allow you to sparkle.
Q. Give us some comfort tips?
A. Samantha Popa:
If you feel like you need a shaper in a dress, it is not your wedding dress.
(sigh)
If you feel like you continue to pull a dress up and it is falling off then it is not your wedding dress.
If you can dance, sit in, and not feel like you are actually wearing it. It is your dream dress.
Q. Why?
A. Samantha Popa:
A true bridal style should be effortless.
Q. Who should a bride bring to help them select their wedding dress?
A. Samantha Popa:
LESS Is MORE. Bring loved ones whose opinions you trust. Your mom, best-friend, sister. Do not bring anyone will picture themselves in your wedding dress and giving too much of their opinion that could skew yours. If you are bringing a cheerleading squad they are probably going to be louder than you are and make it harder on you. This is the biggest day of your life and it is your opinion that matters most. Say Yes to the Dress is a show people, made for TV not real life.
